Celebrating 45 Years of EKPF: 45 Years of Giving Kidney Patients a Voice!

This year, the European Kidney Patients’ Federation (EKPF) celebrates its 45th anniversary, marking more than four decades of dedication to improving the lives of people living with kidney disease across Europe.

Founded in Vienna on 4 July 1981 as CEAPIR, EKPF has grown into a European network of kidney patient associations, working together to ensure that patients’ voices are heard and their needs are represented at national and European levels.

Over the past 45 years, the Federation has achieved important milestones, from strengthening international cooperation and advocating for patients’ rights to participating in European research projects, raising awareness of kidney disease and empowering the next generation of kidney patient advocates.

To celebrate this special anniversary, EKPF has published a commemorative catalogue looking back at our history, key achievements, memorable moments and the people and organisations that have helped shape our journey.

This anniversary is not only an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come, but also to look ahead and reaffirm our commitment to a future where everyone living with kidney disease has access to equitable, high-quality care.

A huge thank you to all our members, partners, volunteers and supporters who have been part of this journey. Here’s to many more years of working together for kidney patients across Europe!
