The European Kidney Patients’ Federation (EKPF) was present in Athens promoting patient inclusion at the ESOT Congress 2023, held in Athens. The Congress featured a series of Patient Inclusion Events, aimed at fostering collaboration between healthcare professionals and individuals who have undergone organ transplants.

The ESOT-ETPO (European Transplant Patient Organisations) alliance is a collaborative initiative between the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) and Transplant Patient Organisations. This alliance is on a mission to advance realistic medicine in organ donation and transplantation by amplifying the voices and experiences of transplant recipients.

Daniel Gallego, EKPF president, assumed the role of moderator during the session titled “Patients as partners in policy development.” Alongside him were fellow EKPF members, including Fiona Loud from Kidney Care UK and Colin White from the Irish Kidney Association. Their participation highlighted the importance of engaging patients in shaping policies and decisions related to organ transplantation.

The ESOT Congress 2023 served as a platform for fostering dialogue between patients, organ donors, families, caregivers, and transplant professionals. EKPF’s active involvement underscores its commitment to ensuring that patients’ perspectives and experiences are integral to the future of organ transplantation.
