EKPF Brings the patient voice to ERA 2025 Panel on organ donation after assisted suicide/euthanasia
Daniel Gallego Zurro, President of the European Kidney Patients’ Federation (EKPF), participated as a speaker at the ERA 2025 Congress in Vienna, contributing to one of the most thought-provoking sessions of the event: “Pro & Cons: Organ Donation after Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia.”
Held on Thursday, June 5, the session brought together medical, legal, and ethical perspectives on a highly sensitive topic. Daniel Gallego represented the patient’s perspective, advocating for the inclusion of patient voices in complex bioethical discussions and underlining the importance of dignity, informed choice, and trust in healthcare systems.
His intervention added depth and humanity to a session that also featured contributions from Jadranka Buturovic-Ponikvar (University Medical Centre Ljubljana), Roos Marsman (Amsterdam UMC), and Simon Sawhney (University of Aberdeen).
EKPF is proud to have been represented in such a vital conversation, reinforcing our commitment to patient advocacy, ethical reflection, and respectful dialogue across Europe.
